Cheshire County Championships
March 2008
(2nd Weekend)

Saturday saw many of our swimmers compete in a 50m (Long Course) Pool at Stockport for the first time. Indeed, many of them had never swum in a 50m pool before! I am proud to report that all our swimmers rose to this challenge and many PB’s were achieved. I’m sure they all benefitted from this experience especially the younger ones. We had many notable swims and I would like to mention a few:

• 50m Butterfly

  • Alex Law, 9th place finish

  • Melissa Lawton, a great butterfly swim – one to watch.

  • Naomi Record, 8th place finish – great dive!

  • Anna Kortoa, a 3 seconds PB

  • Sarah Jervis, 9th place finish

  • Lauren Miller, 9th place finish

  • Liz Hodges, just pipped at the post for the Gold medal

• 50m Backstroke

  • Alex Law, 6th place finish

  • Matt Tasker, 2nd place finish

  • Chloe Maund, a big PB!

  • Lauren Miller, 9th place finish

  • Emma Foster, 9th place finish

  • Sophia Smith, 6th place finish

• 50m Freestyle

  • Andrew Cunniffe, a big PB!

  • Matt Tasker, 8th place finish and so close to breaking 27 seconds!

  • Emma Roberts, a 4 second PB and just outside the top 10

  • Emma Crosby, a big PB!

  • Alice Hodges, Wow, a really big PB!

  • Liz Hodges, 4th place finish

• 50m Breaststroke

  • Matt Tasker, 3rd place finish

  • Emma Roberts, a 6 seconds PB!

Another early start on Sunday saw Northwich swimmers back in action at the Macclesfield pool. Both Liz Hodges (4th in the 100m Butterfly) and Rupert Wiltshire (6th in the 100m Breaststroke) made their respective finals. Sarah Jervis continued her excellent championships with a 10 second PB in the 200m Backstroke earning her a 9th place finish.

However, the day belonged to Matt Tasker, 8th place in the 200m freestyle with yet another Club Record was quickly followed by a Bronze Medal in the 200m Breaststroke. In the afternoon, Matt eased in to the final of the 100m Breaststroke with an eye to collecting another medal. This time he went one better, collecting a Silver medal in a terrific race.

Cheshire County Championships

(1st Weekend)
 

The first weekend of the county championship saw Sarah Jervis reap the rewards of training hard with significant PB’s in all 5 of her races at the weekend.
First up was the 400m Freestyle, having set a PB only 4 weeks ago in the North Midlands, Sarah took a further 6 seconds of this time and bagged another Club Record. This was quickly followed by a 7 seconds PB in the 200m Breaststroke. The afternoon session saw Sarah take 4 second off her PB in the 100m Backstroke.
Sunday proved to be equally profitable for Sarah as she smashed he 200m Freestyle time by 11 seconds! Not satisfied with that, Sarah completed her memorable weekend with a 2 seconds PB in the 100m Freestyle.

Saturday also saw Matthew Tasker take nearly a seconds off his 100m Freestyle PB time to finish 5th in the final of this strongly contested event. Matt went two better in the evening, collecting the Bronze medal and Club Record for his 3rd place in the 100m Butterfly.

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Hodges swam outside her age group in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly Open events. Liz gained valuable experience in making the finals of both events finishing a creditable 5th in the Freestyle and 7th in the Butterfly.
Back in her own age group, she qualified 8th fastest for the final of the 100m Freestyle; the final was the last event of a long weekend and Liz pull out all the stops to finish 4th in a time just outside her PB.
